Birthday Celebration at Solomons Island, MD


Yesterday was Chris's birthday. The girls wanted to his start his day off in a special way so they made his breakfast (with some helping hands from me).

We made him an omelette with cheese & egg, blueberry toast and a cup of steaming hot green tea. Chris enjoyed his breakfast but I'm sure it tasted that much better knowing his little girls made it for him.

After everything was cleaned up and we were out of our pjs, we decided on the spur of the moment to take a ride to Solomons Island for a walk along the water and a nice linner (lunch/dinner). It was chilly to say the least and rain was threatening overhead but we decided to just go for it. (It was hot and humid last week and today we had to break out the sweaters and fleece jackets.) The car ride from our house to Solomons Island is a bit over an hour. It was so nice to just get out as family and not be in a rush! Being by the water makes Chris very happy and not following a clock makes him even happier.

After walking around for a while, we headed into Stoney's for a bite to eat. Leave it to Bean to order the most expensive thing on the kid's menu...King Crab legs.

After stuffing ourselves on the yummy food we headed out on our walk again. The clouds were getting darker, the wind was picking up and the girls were just about to start complaining how cold they were when I heard drums and the music of Bob Marley. Across the street was a cute home turned into a cafe with a closed in front porch and on it was a band. My husband loves live music! So, we found the closest pedestrian crosswalk and made a quick dash inside. The girls got hot cocoa, I got pumpkin chai (oh, so rich & creamy) and Chris got a hot caramel apple cider. We hung out for a few songs and warmed up before the long walk back to the car.

The weather may not have been perfect but the day sure was! It was great to be able to have all four of us together, celebrate Chris's birthday and find a fun spot that we will visit time and time again.
