The Writer's Storm...

I wasn't going to write today. As some of you know, I have been in sort of a writing rut. Then before I went to bed last night I saw a tweet from Mama Kat about her weekly writer's workshop. I scrolled through the list of five prompts and one of them hit me right away.

The prompt was to write a poem inspired by a storm. Here is my take on that...

The Writer's Storm

I can feel the storm that is headed my way
Words that were once strung together so easily have
gone a stray

I reach out to grab and save them from the twisting cloud
I plead for them to come back out loud

I can see them swirling round and round
I just can't stop them and pull them back down

The harder I try to reach the faster they spin
I can feel the angst rising within

I need this storm to settle and let my words shine through to their best
Without them, I don't feel I can rest

Mama’s Losin’ It

Love this! Though I do hate writer's block.

Nice! Sometimes the swirl of words and ideas is storm like, and when it is working right, it pours out like a flood.

I can relate to this one. If I can't think of anything to write in the morning, it throws my whole day off!

Nice! The poem itself cured the writers block in a way, no? Ironic...

Love it! I think that your poem might have opened the gates for your writer's block. that was well written my friend. xoxo

I despise writer's block. It comes on unexpectedly and usually leaves unexpectedly too!

Love this - been having a bit of a bit of a blah time with the blog lately myself.

I loved your poem! I've been going through some writer's block too lately. Usually I end up posting something that's rushed or I throw some photos together, not that I did that on Monday, ahem.

You're a great writer, so don't be too hard on yourself.

I definitely go through these phases too! Or I'll go through a phase where I post things that I just don't really like. It's hard...I know I need to step away from the computer when I'm feeling like that, but I'm glad you didn't because I like this poem!

GREAT take on the prompt! I am in the same place as you. I look back through my older posts and think, "man, that was GREAT!" and then I wonder why I have sucked for the last 6 months or so. Seriously... I struggle to come up with stuff and so I wind up writing another anecdote about my kids. But even those used to be funnier than they are now.

You wrote a poem, with writer's block!

I love it.

Beautiful. I am a horrible poet but can always appreciate those who have a way with words, and you do.
